The Wrecking Crew
This is a group of people I first read about a long time ago and wanted to know more about them, what they did, and how they did it. I had already heard of the likes of Glen Campbell and Carol Kaye and Hal Blaine and I was a big fan of the music of Brian Wilson and music such as can be found on the Pet Sounds album.
I read how that when the group, The Beach Boys, were over in Japan touring that Brian was creating, in 1966, a new masterpiece, a new album without the band and was using this group of musicians that included the likes of Glen Campbell before he became famous in his own right.
Clever people like Brian Wilson would ask these very talented session musicians for suggestions while making recordings and get great ideas that would often end up somewhere in the song. There was Carol Kaye for her funky bass lines, Hal Blaine for that groovy beat, and the likes of Glen Campbell for some clever guitar riffs, tunes, and chords. Giving the members of The Wrecking Crew a free hand in what was going down often meant new, exciting, groovy music and innovative genius.
The video starts off with Brian Wilson on a 1965 session with the wrecking crew, talking in the recording studio, then a short clip of Good Vibrations, Be My Baby , and others like old blue eyes Frank Sinatra, to give us a clear idea of the magic of The Wrecking Crew and the amount of hits they crated with their amazing combined talents, along with photos of some of the members of The Wrecking Crew.
If you like classic Rock and Roll, a look into how recording is done in the studio, the ways and attitudes of the true professional of probably the greatest Rock and Rock group of all time who churned out a large amount of hits year after year while others got the credit you have to see this documentary movie video, it really is enlightening, enjoyable, entertaining, and the music is great, the best.
I remember reading that in the case of The Beach Boys and Brian’s masterpiece Pet Sounds the group came back from their tour of Japan and then had to learn the already finished music that Brian and The Wrecking Crew had already put together so that The Beach Boys could play the songs on their next tour. The Beach Boys barely played any music on the recording sessions The Wrecking Crew did that, yet the group got the credit. Its nice to see the story told and the true musical professionals finally get credit for their amazing musical skills. A must see for the true Rock and Roll fan.
These are considered by many as the greatest session players that the world has seen.
All the best from
